In a nutshell: your Shengmilo is sent from our UK warehouse and usually arrives within 4–8 working days, mostly built, with the tools you need to finish the job. This guide takes you through e-bike delivery and assembly from the moment you order to the moment you ride off – so there are no surprises on the doorstep.
Buying a bike you’ve never sat on can feel like a gamble. It doesn’t have to be. Here’s exactly what happens, step by step.
Step 1: Your order confirmation and tracking link
As soon as you order, you’ll get a confirmation email. We dispatch within 1–3 working days, and the moment your bike leaves the warehouse a second email arrives with your tracking link. You can check where it is at any time on our Track Your Order page.
Delivery is free to mainland Great Britain. The courier may text or ring you to arrange a time, so double-check your mobile number at checkout. Paying by bank transfer? We dispatch as soon as the money has cleared.
Step 2: When the box turns up
An e-bike comes in a big, heavy box – over 40 kg with the bike inside – so it’s well worth having a second pair of hands to get it indoors.
Have a good look at the box before the driver leaves. If it’s badly damaged, take photos and mention it to the courier. If anything turns out to be damaged, wrong or missing, let us know within 7 days of delivery with your order number and a few photos, and we’ll put it right. Full details are in our Delivery Policy.
Step 3: Unboxing
Open the box carefully – keep sharp blades well away from the paintwork and cables – then take off the foam and cable ties one at a time.
Inside you’ll find:
- The bike, mostly assembled
- The battery (sometimes already fitted in the frame)
- The charger
- The pedals and a few small parts still to fit
- A tool kit and the user manual
Hang on to the box and packaging for the first few weeks. If you ever need to send the bike back, it’s by far the easiest way to do it.
Step 4: E-bike assembly – easier than you think
The hard work has already been done at the factory: the motors, wiring and brakes all arrive fitted. In most cases, you just need to add a handful of parts:
- Handlebar: fix it to the stem, line it up with the front wheel and tighten the bolts a little at a time, side to side.
- Front wheel: if it’s packed separately, slot it into the fork, tighten it and plug in the front motor cable as shown in the manual.
- Pedals: they’re marked L and R and have different threads. The left pedal tightens anti-clockwise – don’t force it the wrong way.
- Saddle: set it to a comfortable height and tighten the clamp.
- Lights and mudguards: fit them as shown in the manual.
Take your time and make sure every bolt is properly tight. Most people are done in 20–30 minutes. Stuck? Our Help Centre and support team can send you photos or a short video – or any local bike shop will set it up for a small fee.
Step 5: Charge it before you ride
Give the battery a full charge before your first ride so you get the full range straight away.
A full charge takes around 7–8 hours, so overnight is ideal. Charge indoors at room temperature, on a hard surface and away from anything that could catch fire – not in a cold shed or on a carpet. For more on range, read How far can you really go on a 1,200 Wh battery?
Step 6: Your first ride – take it steady
Shengmilo bikes are powerful, so it pays to ease yourself in.
Quick checks before you set off:
- Tyre pressure matches the figure on the tyre wall
- Front and rear brakes stop the bike firmly
- Handlebar, saddle and wheels are all tight
- Lights work
- Helmet on
Then: start in the lowest assist level and the 15.5 mph setting, somewhere flat and open on private land – a quiet yard or a level field is perfect. Get a feel for how quickly the motors pick up, practise stopping a few times, and only then step up the assist level. On a dual-motor bike like the S600 PRO, the extra grip feels brilliant, but give yourself a few minutes to get used to it.
One thing to know: in Great Britain, e-bikes with more than 250W or assistance above 15.5 mph aren’t allowed on public roads, cycle paths or bridleways, so Shengmilo bikes are for private land. The GOV.UK electric bike rules explain the details.
Step 7: The 60-mile check-up
Every new bike beds in. Cables stretch a touch and bolts can work slightly loose. So, after your first 60 miles or so, go round all the bolts again, adjust the brakes if needed and give the spokes a quick check. If the gears jump, a small turn of the barrel adjuster on the rear mech usually sorts it.
Ten minutes now keeps the bike safe, quiet and running smoothly for years.
